Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre NSW Australia Inc (KMCC NSW Australia Inc), their volunteers and supporters have arranged a fund raising event at Batemans bay.
As per KMCC’s president Niaz Cannoth, this was an eye-opening experience to meet the people from Mogo, whose residence was ravaged by the bushfires.
On arrival, they met the local co-ordinator, Matt Hatcher, from South Coast Donation Logistic team. After going through the brief on assisting activities, KMCC’s volunteers, split into two groups.
The first group of able men and eager kids with purchased hardware from a local shop headed to Mogo to construct a shed/shelter at a property that was completely ravaged by bushfire.
They completed this project by the end of the day using the materials purchased from local hardware shops, liaising with local tradies and 9 KMCC NSW volunteers.
The second group consisting of women and children headed to the local butcher and then took off to Moruya Community Street kitchen. They arranged a BBQ to engage and serve the community.
The great thing about this was that the local butcher organized halal meat for KMCC volunteers to shop, knowing KMCC volunteers were from the Indian Muslim community.
Volunteers cooked and conducted a BBQ to engage with locals and serve those to homeless and people who were impacted by the bushfires.
KMCC NSW, in future, is considering to plan and undertake larger projects such as donating container homes and community kitchen made out of a container.
KMCC is in the process of involving other organizations to make this into reality.
