Know India program (KIP)

The Government of India is organising the following “Know India Programme (KIP)” for the benefit of youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) between the age group of 18 – 30 years.

KIP is an engagement programme for Diaspora youth of Indian origin to introduce them to India and promote awareness about different facets of Indian life, cultural heritage, art and various aspects of contemporary India. The programme has been in existence since 2003. The information and guidelines about KIP is available on www.kip.gov.in

On 17 June 2017 EAM inaugurated a portal for Know India Programme(KIP). The portal www.kip.gov.in enables Indian-origin youth can submit applications online for KIP programmes. Applications can be submitted online by the overseas Indian from 15th May to 15th July, 2018. In the Application Form, the applicant should indicate his/her preference for each KIP, in the order of priority. The organisers of KIP will attempt to allot the first preference of each applicant to the extent possible. If there are too many applicants for a specific KIP, the allotment of candidates will be on first-come-first serve basis and subject to fulfilment of all eligibility criteria.

Main elements of KIP are given below:

  • Understanding of India’s political system, economy, society, and developments in various sectors etc.
  • Visit to places of historical, cultural, and religious importance.
  • Familiarisation with art, music and culture of India.
  • Visit to industrial sites.
  • Visit to a village.
  • Interaction with non-profit organizations.
  • Meetings with senior leadership/officials in India.
  • Visit to a select state in India for 10 days.
