I welcome this opportunity to acknowledge the Indian community’s influence on the broader Australian story. For around 100 years Indian people have migrated to Australia, and now constitute one of the fastest growing ex-patriate communities in our nation.

Australia is one of the most harmonious multicultural countries on earth. Our nation is like a magnificent tapestry and every single one of our community groups and our ethnic groups and our cultural traditions, woven into that, is an indelible part of who we are.

I thank the Indian Crescent Society of Australia for your continued contribution to our nation’s history and development, and for the bridges of friendship you continue to build with communities overseas.

My warmest congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to make the Society’s newsletter a success. I wish it many more editions to come.
