As a federal Senator, my role is to represent your concerns as members of the Australian community. It has been my honour and privilege to serve as a NSW Senator since 2011. In this time, I have continued my work for justice in all of our communities.
It is a matter of deep concern that we are currently witnessing a rise in bigotry and Islamophobia in Australia and around the world. The Australian Muslim community should not have to live with the abuse, insecurity and uncertainty that racist attitudes foster.
I know that a huge amount of work is needed to achieve this basic right for all residents. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the government to address the rising discrimination we are witnessing and many are experiencing at all levels, but it will be through community organising and grassroots initiatives that these divisions will ultimately be combated.
The Greens support all those that speak out against racism and I stand with everyone who is striving to ensure that all communities are safe and supportive for all Australians.
