The Australian 24th Sir Syed Day celebration organised by the AMU Alumni of Australia was held on Saturday 11 February at Granville Town Hall in Sydney.
Mr S. K. Verma, Consul (Cons) of the Consulate General of India, Sydney, was the Chief Guest. Mr Mansoor Mohammed of PMI Australia delivered the keynote speech at the event. The function was attended by nearly 200 guests.
The President, Mr Zamir Khan welcomed the guests and paid tribute to Sir Syed Ahmed and his mission, and emphasised the relevance of that mission in today’s world more than 100 years later.
Mr Khan read the specially sent message of Hon. Gondane-High Commissioner of India in Australia, on the occasion of Sir Syed Day.
The chief guest, Mr. S. K. Verma, Consul of Consulate General of India, Sydney addressed the audience and spoke in detail about the life and achievements of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. The keynote speaker of the day, Mr Mansoor Mohammed, gave a fascinating talk on the importance of time management in our daily life and advised to avoid procrastination, multi-tasking and external time wasters.
Other highlights of the function were the presentation of AMU Alumni awards to Mr. Talal Yassine, Managing Director of Crescent Wealth and to Mr. Ziaul Islam Ahmad, Managing Editor of Australasian Muslim Times (AMUST).
The award ceremony was followed by the highly entertaining children’s program and Ghazals by Mr Riaz Shah and Mr Khursheed Anwar ending with Tarana. For full report on the event please read on-line at:
