ICSOA Newsletter July 2017

In maintaining consistency, the July issue of ICSOA Newsletter is full of variety of articles, messages from well-wishers as well as profiles of a few role models in our community.

It is highly encouraging to see budding writers enthusiastically writing for ICSOA newsletter that is well received by our ever-increasing diverse readership.

ICSOA continues to organise seminars and events in collaboration with other organisations in various fields of education, health, festivities and community life. Report are presented in subsequent ICSOA Newsletters.

There are a number of issues that are of great concern back home for the Indian diaspora community in general and those in Australia in particular.

The random attacks on Muslims by vigilantes on rumoured suspicion of carrying or consuming beef has created a climate of fear in general and for Muslim Indians in particular.

A movement against this illegal mob attacks by Indians of all faiths and background as is heartening. PM Modi’s condemnation of these violent actions is most welcome but needs to be followed by action against these groups.

The news from Kashmir is highly distressing with terrorist attacks, violent street protests and excessive and indiscriminate use of force. This prevents any peaceful solution based on dialogue and understanding.

We Indians, led by Gandhi and Nehru prided ourselves for our stand against racism, apartheid and oppression. It seems that our current leadership needs to place more emphasis on its principled stand on freedom, justice and peace for the oppressed.
