The electoral process to elect the new president of “Republic of India” has recently concluded where Mr Ramnath Kovind , the NDA candidate, has emerged as victorious candidate, securing 65% of the total vote polled against Mrs Meira Kumar ( Opposition candidate).

Mr Kovind has taken over the reins from outgoing president Mr Pranab Mukherjee whose tenure came to an end this month.
For the first time in the history of Indian republic both the candidates were of Dalit background, although Mr KR Narayanan was the first Dalit to become the President of India.
Mr Kovind hails from Kanpur (Dehat) and is an Advocate by profession. Before joining active politics he has practiced as a lawyer in both Supreme Court and Delhi High court.
He joined BJP in 1991 and has been active member of the RSS as well. Since joining politics he has contested the direct election couple of times. He has been a member of Rajya Sabha for 12 years starting from 1994. He was appointed governor of Bihar on 16 August 2015 and continued until he resigned on 20 June 2017.
ICSOA President, Mr Abbas Alvi congratulated the incoming President on his election on behalf of ICSOA. He also expressed ICSOA’s willingness to work with the new President in achieving and maintaining his vision where he stated “Our diversity is our uniqueness. We follow different paths, beliefs and ways of life. We are different but united”.
ICSOA has also requested the President to help us in resolving concerns of common citizen in general and minorities in particular around recent incidents of lynching, rape, mob justice etc which are fundamentally against the Idea of India we all are proud of and has been the guiding principle of India for generations.
